Ungodly Prayers

Prayer is important.  Prayer is necessary to change things and we are even told to pray unceasingly.  However, there are prayers that can be prayed that are out of selfish ambition or with a spirit of control and manipulation that can cause the wrong effect.

When you pray prayers according to selfish desires to change people according to what you think they need to see, you are now in realm of praying witchcraft prayers.  Prayers that are not according to God's will are not answered by God, but by demonic forces.  It will bring demonic attacks on the individual you are praying for.  It brings confusion, oppression and the inability for them to hear clearly from God.  It brings you out of God's will causing sin and rebellion in your life, because you are functioning out of the soulish realm seeking to please the flesh.  But in Corinthians 13 we clearly see that "Love does not seek it's own way."

I have been in prayer groups and found that the prayers were pretty controlling.  Sometimes, I even found out they would pray what they thought was best for me and it was opposite of what I was praying.  They would pray that the Lord would show people this or that that was wrong with them or what they were doing.  There were times when I found myself battling confusion, depression, frustration and the inability to hear clearly from the Lord and I believe it was from wrong prayers from these individuals.  One time, I was really battling a situation and found out that someone was praying that the Lord would show me this.  It brought on a demonic attack and lack of clarity to hear anything from the Lord.  It caused me to be frustrated, confused, angry and brought on condemnation.   This went on for several months.  This person was playing Holy Spirit junior.  Sometimes people think they are helping God by praying these prayers, but are actually causing the people to be demonically attacked.  It is a sad situation.  It is better to bless others and pray that the Lord would show them his will rather than bring a spirit of condemnation towards them.  It is God's goodness that leads to repentance.  It is his desire to show mercy and grace and the love of God first.

It is also better to address the person directly if you feel the Lord is revealing something to you rather than praying for them to see this or that.  However, timing may be important to delivery the information to the person.  It also can be revealed by sharing scriptures together in a bible study.  God is more than able to do the work needed in a person's life if we will step out of the way and allow him to be God and for us to be obedient to what he called us to do.

Another area to watch is gossip and talking evil about others.  God tells us that their is "death and life in the power of the tongue."  We can either speak words of life, God's word or speak evil.  God tells us to dwell on whatever is perfect, lovely, pure, noble or praiseworthy.  It is good to identify the issues, but not let that overtake the good.  Sometimes people need to be blessed in their lives rather than constant judgment.

Last, if you are uncertain how to pray, we can always rely on how Jesus instructed us to pray in Matthew 6:9-13:

"Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us today our daily bread.  Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."

May the Lord give us a spirit of wisdom and revelation knowledge of his will for us as we pray for others.  May he also give us a heart full of love for those we are praying for.
