You Are the Light of the World

"You are the light of the world.  A city on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.  Instead they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."
Matthew 5:14-16

You are the light of the world.  God tells us we are to be that ray of hope and that shimmer of light to those who are lost and in need of a Savior.  We are to be the ones to share the good news of the gospel with others.  Jesus tells us that the word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. We are also instructed in 2 Timothy 4:2 to Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct; rebuke and encourage - with great patience and careful instruction."

In Romans 10, we read how salvation comes.  We are told: "For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."  As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame...Everyone who call on the name of the Lord will be saved."  Then we read, "How then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one whom they have not heard?  And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?  And how can they preach unless they are sent?"  As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"

We are called to be that light and share the good news of the gospel.  We are surrounded by people who are lost and are heading in a destination that they were not made for.  We are the light of the world.  We are not to hide the hope that we have in our hearts and put it under a bowl.   We are to give light (the word of God, the good news of the gospel and hope) to those around us.  We are the ones chosen to go out and preach the good news.  It is not about our speaking abilities but about God's great love.  He loved the world so much that he sent his Son Jesus to die on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins.  He sent his Son to redeem, justify, sanctify, transform and glorify us into his image.  He gave us part of him, the Holy Spirit who will direct our steps and teach us his ways.  We have access to the throne of grace and the power of God to speak.  He is the one who will fill our mouths if we will open it to share his heart.  He desires that all men be saved and the full knowledge of him.  He died so that we may have eternal life.  His plan of salvation is perfect.  Our righteousness comes from what his Son has done not our good deeds.  We need to share this with others so that they may enter too by putting their faith and trust in Jesus Christ, the hope of glory.

So today as you seek him, be the light to those around you.  Start sharing the good news of the gospel.  There is someone out there in need of salvation.  May you partake of the eternal rewards in store for you and have all of heaven rejoice as you preach the good news of the gospel and bring someone to Christ!
