If we try to earn righteousness through our works, we will be led by the spirit of religion and abide in guilt. We cannot remove the stain of sin except through Jesus Christ and what he accomplished. It is by grace we are saved through faith (Romans 2:8). Satan knows this. He loves to have God's people perform to earn their righteousness. He knows that if he can deceive us, he will hinder our walk with Christ. The Apostle Paul mentions this several times in his epistles for us not to be deceived and to be careful of receiving another gospel. If Satan can get us to buy into religion and works, We will find ourselves living in guilt. He will succeed in hindering us from successfully walking in the fullness that Christ has for us.
God desires for us to live holy lives and sin is what will hinder us from having a personal relationship with Christ. He also tells us that when we ask for forgiveness and turn away from that sin, he truly forgives us of our sins. We know that we are blessed because it tells us in Romans 4:7-8 "Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord never counts against them." Receiving the forgiveness of sins is received by faith. Without faith, we are in sin (Romans 14:23). God fully accomplished the redemptive work when Jesus died for us on the cross. We are forgiven of our sins when we receive Jesus into our lives and repent of our sins.
So when the enemy comes to you and speaks about your past and imposes the law on you to guilt you into performing for your righteousness you need to remind yourself of the great work of what Jesus Christ accomplished on the cross. Let us fully glorify God and his finished work by receiving his grace and mercy by faith in what he has done for us.
Today my prayer is that the Lord would impart his grace and mercy that you may truly experience the fullness of the forgiveness of your sins and that you may abide in that place of rest and assurance knowing by faith that God has fully completed in work in you.
